Introduction to the Aberration Series

Things may not be as they seem
Departing from the right or usual
Deviating from the ordinary
Divesting from truth or moral rectitude
Mentally irregular
Lapsing from sound mental state
Displacing of a heavenly body
No longer a clear image, so
one may wander and lose the way.

                          J.McNeil Hayes

An aberration may be an event, place, or happening that departs from the normal course of events and creates considerable perplexity and entanglements. It is in the world of abstraction that increases the range and power of the sentient, visual and perceptive, as opposed to narrative or lucid explanation of an event.

Process

Canvas, archival papers and various drawing and painting media, with digitized photo images integrated into the paint layers. Images re-cut, torn, to various sizes, shapes, and worked into the prepared surface.

Media

Canvas, archival papers, oil, acrylic and charcoal. Sizes are indicated above the enlarged works.

Description

Works represent events that have occurred as in death of a brother, first child, memory loss, dementia, failure, fear and other unwanted expectations that happen in a life.
